I just want to clear up the whole Rose/Jack “I’ll never let go” thing.

I get a lot of reblogs on my Titanic stuff with people saying stuff like, “ROSE, YOU LET GO. You didn’t keep his promise, I hate you.” or “Right after he told her to never let go, she let go of his hand and his body sunk to the bottom of the ocean!”

People, when Jack says, “Never let go”, he does not mean literally. He does not say “Never let go of me or my hand or my body”.

What he actually says is:

“You must do me this honour. You must promise me that you’ll survive; that you won’t give up, no matter what happens… no matter how hopeless. Promise me now, Rose. And never let go of that promise. Never let go.

He told her not to let go of the PROMISE he asked her to keep— that for the rest of her life, she will be a survivor and never give up, even when times seem hopeless. And for the record, Rose does keep that promise her entire life. She survived the night the Titanic sank, and she lived to be 101 years old, and died peacefully in her sleep. She lived a long, happy life as a survivor, and she never gave up. She never let go of his promise.

Please let this information sink in (pardon the pun).
